As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it became alarmingly clear that men and especially women do not get enough self-care.
You, yourself, may be dealing with things like anxiety, depression, guilt, past trauma, low self-esteem, feelings of overwhelm and stress, excessive fear and worry, poor body image, and limiting self beliefs... just to name a few. The worst part, you may think this is completely "normal" to feel this way.
Personally, I thought it was "normal" to feel this way until I hit a breaking point.
Are you close to your breaking point?
Personally, I thought it was "normal" to feel this way until I hit a breaking point. For me, my breaking point was when I realized I was living life on autopilot; just showing up, clocking in and out, not fully present and full of negative emotions. The sadness, anger, shame, guilt, and frustration was taking its toll. But, though my emotional state was unstable I thought this was how it had to be and half-present living was all I had to offer. Of course, until I realized how my negative emotions were impacting my husband and daughter. That was my breaking point. I was not going to raise a daughter to think that it's okay to simply survive life instead of thrive in life!
My name is Becky Lauridsen and I owe me! I am a wife, mother, career woman, and the proud founder and lead supporter of IOME. I see a therapist on a regular basis. I take naps, shower (almost daily), wash my face every night, wear makeup, go to church, cuss a little, take bubble baths, go on long walks, and binge watch Netflix when I need to “check out”. I even have sex with my husband regularly (and I like it)!
You do not have to simply survive life! You can have your cake and eat it too. You deserve the best because your family deserves the best of you.
Taking care of yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.
